Thierry Valette, ein ehemaliger Künstler und Tänzer, ist einer der vielen Quereinsteiger in der Weinbranche. Er absolvierte jedoch ein Önologie Studium und arbeitete mit Chateau Tertre Roteboeuf und Chateau Pavie auf zwei absoluten Spitzengütern, nahm also seinen Wechsel sehr ernst. Im Jahr 2000 übernahm er das 12 ha große Cotes de Castillon Chateau Clos Puy Arnaud mit altem Rebbestand und erstklassigen Kalk-Lehm Böden. Als einer der wenigen Winzer in Bordeaux verwendet er Carmenere in seiner Cuvee mit einem Anteil von 2 %. Die wichtigste Rebsorte ist mit 65% jedoch Merlot, gefolgt von 30 % Cabernet Franc und 3 % Cabernet Sauvignon.
Bereits im Jahr 2004 stellte Thierry Valette auf den BIOLOGISCH-DYNAMISCHEN WEINBAU um. Die sanfte Arbeitsweise setzt sich fort, etwa bei der Handlese mit strenger Traubenselektion, bei der Vergärung mit den natürlichen Hefen oder dem Verzicht auf den Einsatz von Pumpen, Valette nutzt, wo immer möglich, die Schwerkraft. Der Ausbau erfolgt in Barriques, wovon ein Drittel alljährlich erneuert werden. Thierry Valette hat Clos Puy Arnaud innerhalb von weniger als 10 Jahren an die Spitze der Region geführt, so daß das Gut heute erstklassige, stoffige, fruchtintensive und strukturierte Weine zu einem sehr fairen Preis produziert. |
