The purity, the texture, and the multi-layered mouthfeel all are impressive and make this wine very drinkable now but capable of lasting for at least another 12-15 years." |

Proprietor Jean-Philippe Janoueix has fashioned a full-bodied, deep, concentrated wine revealing sweet notes of licorice, chocolate, espresso, cassis, and cherry. Long, dense, full-bodied, rich, and pure with enough oak and acidity to add complexity and focus, it should drink well for 12-15 years. Interestingly, this cuvee received a Burgundian-like treatment of malolactic in barrel after frequent pigeages in small oak fermentation tanks, an unusual upbringing in Bordeaux. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered." |

Jean-Philippe Janouiex ist der Besitzer des St. Emilion Chateau La Confession. Er ist vielen Bordeaux Liebhaben vom Preis-Leistung-Dauerbrenner Croix Mouton ein Begriff. Weitere Güter sind das Pomerol Chateau Croix St. Georges, der Bordeaux Superieur Le Conseiller sowie 20-Mille. Janoueix hat den Sprung vom Önologie-Talent zum Spitzenwinzer geschafft und bringt mit einer unglaublichen Zuverlässigkeit selbst in schwierigen Jahren Spitzenweine hervor. Merlot führt den Rebsortenspiegel mit einem 66 % Anteil an, gefolgt von Cabernet Franc mit 32 % und etwas Cabernet Sauvignon. Das Durchschnittsalter der Reben beträgt beachtliche 40 Jahre. Die Erträge liegen bei ca. 30 hl/ha. Die Gärung findet mit den eigenen Hefen in kleinen, offenen Holzgärständern statt. Die Malolaktik erfolgt in neuen Eichenfässern bester Hersteller, mit einer langen Lagerung (6 Monate) auf der Hefe. Die Bordelaiser nennen diese Arbeitsweise „Elevage Bourguignon“. 40 % der Eichenfässer haben zur Förderung des Sur-Lie Effekts eine besondere Zigarrenform. Jean-Philippe verzichtet auf Pumpen, die Abfüllung erfolgt ohne Schönung und Filtration. Die hohen Bewertungen der Fachpresse bestätigen Jean-Philippe in seiner Arbeit. Sehr erfreulich sind die moderaten Preise von La Confession. |
