On the nose, the l’Eglise-Clinet 2008 is much broodier and introspective than its peers, the Cabernet Franc imparting seductive truffle and undergrowth aromas. It displays impressive intensity, a nose that is full of character. The palate is full-bodied with lush, saturated tannins that belie a firm backbone. This Pomerol has impressive acidity and depth: “spherical” at first, but those tannins come through with time in the glass. It has beautifully integrated oak with a seamless, classy finish. This is an enigmatic, alluring Pomerol wine. Tasted January 2012." - Neal Martin. 95 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Earth, fresh herbs, dark chocolate, licorice, plum and black cherry jam aromas are easy to find. On the palate, the full bodied wine is soft, polished, round and delivers a sweet, lush, cocoa and dark plum finish. If you like young wines, you can pop a cork, else give it another 4-5 years in the bottle. From a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 14.5% alcohol." 94 JAMES SUCKLING: "A dusty and sensual wine with beautiful perfumes of blackberries, blueberries, minerals, and flowers. Full bodied, but very delicate and refined with ultra-fine tannins and a gorgeous finish. Try it in four to five years." 92 WINESPECTATOR: "This is lilting, with perfumy incense and warm cherry confiture aromas giving way to a still-compact core of plum, red currant and melted red licorice. The long finish has some grip to shed, with plum skin, spice and floral notes flittering in and out. Best from 2013 through 2018. 1,465 cases made." 90-92 ANTONIO GALLONI: "Good full red. Pure, floral aromas of black cherry and plum are complicated by strong lead pencil and black pepper notes. Suave on entry, then conveys an almost saline sense of extract in the middle, with very good definition and verve to the pretty black fruit, ink and graphite flavors. Distinctly minty on the finish. A politely styled L´Eglise-Clinet with real breed, showing more acidity than most Pomerols from this vintage." - Ian D´Agata .
