Chateau La Fleur de Gay
Chateau La Fleur de Gay 2000
94 THE WINEADVOCATE: "I have always thought this was the best Fleur de Gay since the 1989 and 1990, and it showed extremely well in the 2000 horizontal tastings. Dense ruby/purple, with notes of melted caramel and mocha, along with raspberry and blueberry, the wine has that endearing combination of elegance and power. Layered and multi-dimensional, with silky, sweet tannins, the wine seems to have hit full maturity, where it should last for another 20 or more years. This is a beautiful wine."
93 WINESPECTATOR: "Lush and inviting, with raspberry cream, boysenberry confiture and warmed anise notes gliding along together with very velvety structure. The long, flowing finish has a light echo of warm ganache. Hedonistic for sure, but there´s freshness too. Why we love Pomerol.--Blind 2000 Bordeaux retrospective (December 2015). Drink now through 2023. 845 cases made."
92 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "1 hour in the decanter allowed the wine to fill out, soften and show off its round textured, dark plum, bitter chocolate, licorice and cherry character. The tannins are a bit firm here, and initially, there was a bit of olive, and herb, but most of those characteristics faded with air. My last bottle from the case. On to the 2009, in a few years."
