Jeb Dunnuck: "A richer, darker-fruited wine than its big brother Canon, the 2022 Château Berliquet comes from slightly more clay soils and is always a bigger, broader wine, especially when compared to Canon and its neighbors on the upper plateau. It offers more currant and black cherry fruit as well as scorched earth, chocolate, and truffly aromas and flavors that gain persistence and intensity with time in the glass. These carry to a rich, full-bodied Saint-Emilion that has a beautifully layered mouthfeel, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. The level of purity and precision here is exceptional. The 2022 is 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, from a mix of clay and limestone soils on the upper plateau, that spent 16 months in 44% new French oak, with 8% in amphora. It will evolve nicely over the coming 20-25 years."

Jeb Dunnuck: "Violets, ripe black cherries, spring flowers, cassis, and a riveting sense of chalky minerality all shine in the 2022 Château Beauséjour (Duffau-Lagarrosse), another heavenly 2022 that has gorgeous tannins, a seamless, layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. It's not massive or incredibly concentrated, yet it has flawless balance and remarkable length. The pH is 3.45, with an alcohol of 14.5%. It's a more elegant, pure, seamless example of the 2020 vintage and has everything in the right place. Give bottles just 4-6 years if you can and it’s clearly going to have 20-30 years of overall prime drinking, as well as a gradual decline thereafter."

The Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Chateau Grillet comes from one of the estate's earliest harvests, with grapes picked on 27 August. Evoking a complex, elegant bouquet of almond blossoms, exotic notes, violet, white flowers, ripe pear and spices, it's followed by a full-bodied, dense and rich palate with some purity, a racy spine, a fleshy core of fruit and a long, pure finish accented by delicate dry extracts and gastronomic bitterness. Exceptionally saline and ethereal, this vintage captures the satiny elegance of this renowned terroir, offering a notably tense and pure profile typical of early harvests in Condrieu. Whether this signifies a shift toward a more refined style or reflects the characteristics of the vintage will become more evident in the ensuing years. This vintage would benefit from 2 to 3 years in the cellar to fully develop its potential."

James Suckling: "Gorgeous blackberry, blackcurrant and tapenade aromas follow through to a medium body with super-integrated tannins that are very refined. The thick, polished, silky texture is impressive. Best ever from here. Drink after 2029."

Decanter: DECANTER: This wine is incredibly perfumed and earthy, with a neon-bright, electric fruit character that seems to pulse with aromatic energy. It lures you in, revealing subtle layers of pure Bing cherry, plum, and cassis, intertwined with violets and firm, seamlessly interconnected tannins. These tannins are almost elliptical—sleek and structured at the edges, yet supple and expansive on the mid-palate. Framed by intensely warm earth tones, the wine is lifted by violet pastille and unsmoked tobacco, leading to an everlasting finish. There’s an incredible freshness and tension, and compared to 2021, despite the earlier harvest, the clarity, generosity, and crunch of the bright fruit stand out. Arguably hedonistic, but in the way a masterful piece of art captivates—think a Caravaggio masterpiece, where richness and depth are layered with precision and focus. Seamless, compelling, and utterly complete. Winemaker Cory Empting highlights that despite 2022 being another drought year, the 7 inches of rain in October 2021 gave the vines a strong root flush before dormancy. By spring, with temperate conditions, they awakened with stored energy and grew with ease—a remarkable outcome for the third year of drought. The tannins and the wine’s striking balance reflect this vibrancy and preserved vine energy."
