  "The 2019 Massetino is 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. This is only the third vintage of this cuvée, which adds a splash of Cabernet Franc to give a dramatically different take on Masseto. Ripe black cherries, currants, tobacco leaf, scorched earth, and ample graphite are just some of the nuances here, and it does have a slightly more floral, herbal, focused edge compared to the more round and opulent Grand Vin. Rock solid on the palate and structured, tannic, yet balanced and concentrated, it's built for the long haul and will need 7-8 years to hit maturity, but it’s going to have 25-30 years of overall longevity."

  "Tasted before bottling, the 2019 Massetino is shaping up beautifully. This is the third vintage made of the Merlot-based wine enhanced with a small part of Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet Franc is what distinguishes this euphemistically diminutive expression of Masseto, and it is its distinctive vinous signature. The 2019 vintage is soft and pliant but also incredibly rich and layered. It offers generous black fruit with ripe cherry and blackberry. Spice, tobacco and campfire ash fill in the rear and build the aromatic profile of this wine that is already stacked tall and proud. We still need to see how the 2019 plays out in the bottle, and I am especially interested to gauge how the thick and rich fruit concentration works against the less pronounced acidity of the vintage."

  "Very attractive aromas of currants, spices and sweet tobacco with some graphite and slate. Full-bodied with a rich and rather dense mouth feel, plenty of fruit and a spicy, dark-chocolate aftertaste. A solid and sturdy second wine from Masseto."

  "Im Massetino, dem ausgezeichneten Zweitwein von Masseto, kommt in 2019 erstmals auch ein wenig Cabernet Franc (6%) neben dem Merlot zum Einsatz. Dunkle, satte Farbe. Mit einem dezenten Pomerol-Ansatz zeigt sich die feine, würzige Nase des Massetino 2019 toskanisch, süßlich duftend, floral und verführerisch. Cremigschmelzig, süß und charmant beginnt er im Mund und zeigt sehr distinguierte, feine Gerbstoffe und intensiven Toskana-Charakter. Ganz leicht trocknet er im Finale aus, was von seiner süßen Duftigkeit im Nachhall jedoch wieder aufgefangen wird. Der kleine Anteil Cabernet Franc steuert etwas Transparenz bei, was für den Masseto in Zukunft möglicherweise auch eine sinnvolle Ergänzung sein könnte. Nicht schmeckbare 15 vol.-%."

  "Sattes, funkelndes Rubin mit Violettschimmer. Intensive und ansprechende Nase mit viel satter Beerenfrucht, Schwarzkirsche, Brombeere und Cassis, dazu etwas Nougat und Tabak. Im Ansatz dicht und tiefgründig, dunkle Beerenfrucht, öffnet sich mit griffigem Tannin, im Finale noch ein wenig diffus, braucht Lagerung."

  "Plum aromatics are immediately plump and enticing. This is polished and intense, liquorice root dipped in damsons and rich chocolate, you feel the generosity and the power of the site. This vintage was a little cooler overall than the 2018, and the longer ripening perhaps helped give this concentrated character. This is significantly more nuanced than the 2018 Massetino, and is one to look out for. Natural yeast fermentation, 50% new oak."

  "Massetino 2019 is the third release of this wine. Rare and in demand, it is mostly Merlot, as with first wine Masseto, but with a less oaky character when young. It has gorgeous fruit concentration, full of dark fruits and restrained chocolate, with straw and a balsamic touch, a grainy mid-palate, then a toasty, angular, dry and austere finish."
