Lange Zeit war die Appellation Fronsac ein Geheimtipp, bis Ende der 1980er Jahre allmählich einige Kritiker auf die Weine von dort aufmerksam wurden. The Wine Cellar Insider: "Aromatically, the wine pops with incense, espresso, licorice, plums, cherries, flowers, and chocolate. However, the star of the show is the mineral-driven palate with its layers of perfectly ripe, fruits, and the velvet-edged, creamy finish, with its salt-crusted end note. Part of the reason the 2022 is so strong is that Le Defi was not produced this year. So all of that fruit was included in the Fontenil bottling. Drink from 2026-2042."

James Suckling: "Lots of hazelnut chocolate and creamy vanilla character at the moment, but the fruit is not subdued, showing some rich but fresh blackberries and dark cherries throughout. Creamy, dusty tannins surround the palate with medium to full body and a really long, plush finish. Modern and truly well-made with very good length and acidity. Drink from 2027 when the wood spices round off."

Wine Spectator: "A broad red, with dark, smoldering tobacco and charcoal notes that feature prominently, along with crushed fig and black cherry fruit backed by a lacing of olive on the finish. Offers range and drive."
