"The second vintage of this wine, the 2018 Chardonnay Powder House comes from eight acres of what are now estate-owned vines planted in 2013 to Hyde Old Wente and Mt. Eden clones on Goldridge soils. The vineyard is located in downtown Forestville, right across from the high school. It bursts with tantalizing notions of peaches and cream, orange sherbet and lemon pastilles giving way to a grounded, serious core of Bosc pears, beeswax and baking bread. Full-bodied with a gorgeous creaminess to the texture, it delivers loads of citrus sparks among the stone fruit background with a lively backbone and very long finish. 1,000 cases were made."

"The first vintage of this cuvée I’ve been able to taste (it was first made in 2017), the 2018 Chardonnay Powder House comes from a site on the Sonoma Coast and is from a mix of old Wente and Mt. Eden clones. Its lighter gold hue is followed by a beautiful bouquet of white flowers, honeyed white peach, nectarines, and mint. It’s a classic Aubert Chardonnay, with clean, pure, complex aromatics, full-bodied richness, bright acidity, and a stunning sense of opulence pared with freshness. Drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years."

MARK AUBERT, Schüler der begnadeten Weinmacherin Helen Turley, danach selbst verantwortlich für große Weine von Peter Michael, Colgin, Bryant und vielen anderen, gründete Ende der 90er Jahre sein eigenes Weingut AUBERT. Was dann passierte sieht man in dieser Dimension normalerweise nur in der IT-Branche: MARK AUBERT eilte v.a. mit seines Chardonnays von einem Erfolg zum nächsten. PARKER schrieb Ende 2016 über MARK AUBERT: „…Aubert is at the top of his game, and it is hard to believe any Chardonnay winemaker in the world is turning out a half-dozen Chardonnays at this qualitative level year in and year out. He has had an incredible run of great success…”. Die Anfragen nach Consulting überschlugen sich. Durch seine Reputation und seinen Namen eröffneten sich ihm Zugänge zu Traubenmaterial aus den Tops der Tops aller CHARDONNAY Weinberge Kaliforniens. Ob Hudson, Hyde & Sons, oder Eastside, aus all diesen Weinbergen erhält er mittlerweile Zuteilungen. Ein Weinberg jedoch tat es ihm von Anfang an besonders an: RITCHIE VINEYARD. Anfang der 70er Jahre mit dem berühmten Wente Clone bepflanzt, entstanden aus dieser Lage viele grandiose Weine namhafter Spitzenwinzer. Erstmalig mit dem Jahrgang 2000 gelang es MARK AUBERT Traubenmaterial aus diesem historischen Weinberg zu erhalten. Und seitdem sind die Bewertungen auf konstantem Mega-Niveau, die Nachfrage nach den wenig hundert Kisten immens. Unger Weine ist der einzige Importeur für Aubert in Europa!!!
