Dugat Py - Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru Tres Vieilles Vignes 2022

DECANTER: "This superb wine boasts a dense and lovely ripe plum and blackberry fruit aroma with plenty of depth and substance. The tannins are supple and not at all astringent. The grapes come from several small organically farmed parcels near the top of the appellation close to Chambertin, blended with a bit of Mazoyères. They are vinified 75% as whole clusters, with a very gentle extraction before ageing in cask (one-third new). For maximum pleasure, age this for at least five years from release to allow it to open up."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "This cuvée is generally the domaine's most accessible and demonstrative grand cru, even if its aging potential is of course considerable, but the 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a little more overtly serious out of the gates than usual. Offering up notes of sweet cherries and red berries mingled with peony, orange zest and smoke, it's full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a layered core of fruit structured around sweet, powdery tannins and lively acids."
