Chateau Angelus
Chateau Angelus 2013
17,5 JANCIS ROBINSON: "62% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc. Rich, fruitcake aromas. Plush and powerful. Tannins are rounded on the palate – drinkable but not quite ready. Impressive concentration and purity without being forceful."
17 RENÈ GABRIEL´S BX TOTAL: "62 % Merlot, 38 % Cabernet Franc. Produktion: 55´000 Flaschen, also fast eine halbe Ernte. Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Intensives, zu Beginn leicht leimiges Bouquet, milchig-laktische Noten, dann gekochte schwarze Kirschen, Cassis, Kokos und dunke Pralinen. Im Gaumen füllig mit saftigen, angerundeten Tanninen. Er gibt sich für einmal eher elegant und man nicht das Gefühl, dass die Grenzen ausgelotet wurden. Also auf englisch gesagt ein «catch of the sound of this vintage!» Eine verstandene Jahrgangsmelodie also. Als neuer Pemier A wird dies aber ein teures Verlangen nach dieser milden Angélus-Variante."
94 WINE ENTHUSIAST: "Structured and dense, this wine revels in its tension and tight texture. While there are plenty of black fruits, the dry core of tannins and the rich, perfumed character show this wine´s best quality. It is well balanced and ripe while guarding all the freshness of the vintage. Drink from 2022."
93 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Medium bodied, forward wine with a focus on its fresh, sweet, red berry core, with caramel, smoke, thyme, fresh herbs, flowers and cherries in the mix. If Burgundy made Bordeaux , it would probably taste like this."
92 JAMES SUCKLING: A beautiful red with blueberry, currants and flowers. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and delicious combination of fruit and citrus. Savory and fine. Better in 2018."
91 WINESPECTATOR: "Dark and loamy-edged, with a generous feel to the layers of warm fig paste, blackberry coulis and plum sauce, quickly followed by smoldering tobacco and bittersweet cocoa notes. The tarry spine imparts a muscular feel overall. Shows more power than purity, but pulls it off. Best from 2018 through 2025. 6,667 cases made."
90-93 THE WINEADVOCATE: "On the other hand, the opaque purple-colored 2013 Angelus, a brilliant blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc harvested between September 9 and October 3 (only 60% of the production was utilized), possesses good acidity as well as pure blueberry, mulberry and black currant fruit intermixed with notions of licorice, Christmas fruitcake, underbrush and forest floor. With medium body and more texture than is found in most 2013s, it should drink well for 8-10 years. This vineyard is meticulously manicured and the wine is brilliantly made by Hubert de Bouard." Drink: 2014 - 2024 - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
