This deep ruby-hued effort offers a terrific bouquet of red and black currants, leafy tobacco, sandalwood, and graphite, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It's surprisingly accessible yet is going to have 15 years of prime drinking, possibly more."

Château Fonbel gehört wie das noch berühmtere Château Ausone der Familie Vauthier. Somit ist klar, dass hier Wert auf hohe Qualität gelegt wird. Dabei bleiben die Preise moderat. Die 16 Hektar Weinberge mit Ton-Sand und Kies-Sand-Böden sind mit 70 % Merlot, 20 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 7 % Petit Verdot und 3 % Carmenere bestockt. Der Wein reift zehn Monate in Barriques, 30 % davon sind neu. Fonbel ist ein klassischer St. Emilion, stets wunderbar balanciert, mit toller Frucht, feinen Tanninen und einer guten Lagerfähigkeit.
