90 THE WINE ADVOCATE: "A dense ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of charred wood, coffee, blackberry and cherry fruit, and new saddle leather. Full-bodied, dense, chewy, and intense, this muscular as well as backward vin de garde requires cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020." 

90 WINE SPECTATOR: "Very ripe on the nose, verging on raisin. Coffee, earthy, smoky and meat as well. Full-bodied, with a round and thick palate, spicy and ripe fruit flavors. Burly and rich, even funky, but I like it.—'88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Drink now. 3,905 cases made."
