Weinwisser: Aufhellend mit ziegelroten Reflexen. Intensive Nase, vielschichtig, breit, reife Waldfrüchte, Küchenkräuter, weich und enorm lang. Eine Spur zu viel Säure, die Harmonie des herrlichen Weines störend, leicht über der Genussreife, immer noch erstaunlich intakt."

Weinwisser: Sattes Purpur mit orangen Reflexen. Jod-Torf-Nase, Kräuter, Highland-Malt-Nuancen. Im Gaumen sehr animalisch, eigenwillig, sandige Textur, leichte Bitterkeit im Extrakt. An der Luft zunehmend rosinierend, einem alten Zinfandel nicht unähnlich. Potential und Trinkvergnügen ergäben eigentlich 16/20 Punkte, nur nützt das Potential nichts bei nicht vorhandenem Trinkvergnügen, grüner und krautiger Cabernet Franc."

Seit auf Chateau Troplong Mondot Aymeric de Gironde, ehemaliger Direktor von Chateau Cos d´Estournel, das Ruder übernommen hat, findet hier eine in Bordeaux bis dato wohl einmalige Stilwende statt. Wir blicken zurück in das Jahr 2017, Chateau Troplong Mondot wird von der französischen Versicherungsgruppe Scor übernommen und unmittelbar im Anschluss Aymeric de Gironde als neuer Direktor auserkoren.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown: Composed of 92.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.5% Merlot, the 2019 Latour is deep garnet-purple in color. It comes barreling out of the glass with powerful notes of blackcurrant jelly, blackberry pie, and plum preserves, followed by suggestions of pencil shavings, cast-iron pan, and charcoal. The medium to full-bodied palate is exquisitely constructed with a myriad of very fine layers, supported by ripe, grainy tannins and beautiful tension, finishing epically long and mineral-laced. It's still very tightly wound and will require at least 5 to 7 more years in cellar, then should age gracefully for a good 50-years+."

The Wine Advocate: Beychevelle, owners of one of the great terroirs of the northern Medoc, continues to produce wines that are frustratingly irregular in quality. A dark ruby color is followed by a wine revealing plenty of new oak, a touch of pepper, but very little of the vegetal character found in many Medoc 1993s. Spicy fruit is present, but the wine is austere and tannic, although elegant and subtle."

Jeb Dunnuck: The 2020 Château De Fonbel is based on 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Carmenère, coming from more sandy, gravelly soils. This deep ruby-hued effort offers a terrific bouquet of red and black currants, leafy tobacco, sandalwood, and graphite, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It's surprisingly accessible yet is going to have 15 years of prime drinking, possibly more."
