91 WINE SPECTATOR: "Lovely warmed plum and black currant confiture flavors are starting to settle into a secondary phase as sweet tobacco, lightly singed alder and a perfumy incense note weave around. Nice focused, fine-grained finish. Textbook.—2000 Bordeaux blind retrospective (December 2015). Drink now through 2020. 21,667 cases made."

90 THE WINEADVOCATE: "A deep garnet core with brick rim. The nose has good intensity with blackberry, wild hedgerow, cedar and a touch of damp earth. Good delineation and focus. The palate is full-bodied with good acidity and depth, fine tannins, still quite traditional in style with a degree of austerity and glycerine that really complements this great Beychevelle that has a nice prickle on the finish. 90 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "The nose offers tobacco, blackberry, cassis, wet earth, cedar chest and cassis. On the palate, the wine is firm, fresh and traditional. This is well made and developing nicely, but there is a lack of excitement in the wine that would make me want to open another bottle. Tasters that prefer less ripe, lean, traditional or classic Bordeaux wine, will like this a lot more than I did."
