ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2009 Proprietary Red Madrona Ranch opens with beguiling notes of smoke, tar, incense and graphite. Layers of fruit blossom in the glass as this fleshy seductive wine continues to open up. Rich and multi-dimensional, the 2009 impresses for the way it covers every inch of the palate. This is a drop-dead gorgeous wine from David Abreu and Brad Grimes. The 2009 is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot."

WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Deep in color, the nose lets you in with licorice, black and blue smoky fruits, Asian spice and espresso bean. Thick, rich, supple, powerful, and yet, with everything going on, the wine remained perfectly balanced. The tannic, long and expansive, finish builds in intensity with flavor that really linger on the palate."

WINEADVOCATE: "Initially reviewed in December, 2010, the 2009 Madrona Ranch has turned out to be spectacular. Lots of mulberry, blackberry, cassis, roasted coffee, chocolate and toast aromas are all present in the extremely perfumed bouquet. Showing more evolution and charm than other 2009s which seem to be closing down, this example is exceptionally concentrated and full-bodied with an endless finish. The tannins are ripe, and I suspect the alcohol is in the 14%-15% range, but no higher. This dense purple-colored, still youthful, approachable 2009 can be drunk now and over the next 15-20 years"
