Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 2015

JAMES SUCKLING: "Swathed in spicy and toasty oak aromas, this has a wealth of superbly expressed red and dark berries, flowers and mint. The palate delivers a very assertive and energetic array of dark berries and spiced plums with a fresh, focused, vibrant finish. Superb wine. Try from 2023."

FALSTAFF: "Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Etwas scheu im Bukett, zart nach Cassis und Minze, frische Herzkirschen, ein Hauch von Orangenzesten. Mittlere Komplexität, saftig und süß, charmante Textur, reife, tragende Tannine im Hintergrund, bleibt sehr gut haften, ein delikater Begleiter bei Tisch."

WEINWISSER: "74 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 23 % Merlot, 3 % Cabernet Franc. Tiefes Purpur, satt in der Mitte, Granatschimmer am Rand. Absolut delikates Bouquet, Damassinepflaumen, Cassis und feine Kräuterminznoten, sehr vielschichtig. Im Gaumen ist der Wein fast zärtlich mit seinem homogenen, reifen Fluss, strahlt eine wunderschöne Cabernetsüsse aus und endet verführerisch und so delikat wie er begonnen hat. Ein seidiger, zärtlicher Pauillac, der aber nicht zu unterschätzen ist. Hier kann man gar einen Punkt mehr erwarten in seiner Reife. (18/20). 17: Wie alle 2015 ist er nach der Flaschenfüllung aufgehellt und etwas gehemmt. Die Zukunft sieht aber sorglos aus. (18/20). 18: Deutlich aufhellendes Granat-Rubin, heller als andere Pauillac-Crus. Feinfruchtiges, blaubeeriges Bouquet, leicht rahmige Ansätze, minime Toastnoten, welche recht verführerisch wirken. Saftiger, lang gezogener Gaumen, die Tannine geben sich schon fast mild in ihrer Art, die Balance ist wunderschön und der Wein tanzt förmlich über die Zunge. Einer der elegantesten Crus im Médoc von diesem Jahrgang. Scheint bald ersten Genuss vermitteln zu wollen. (18/20). 18: Sattes, dunkles Weinrot mit violettem Schimmer. Das Bouquet zeigt von Beginn weg eine bemerkenswerte Tiefe, Edelhölzer, Tabak und darüber ein reife, ausladende Fruchtnote. Er braucht Luft und legt in der Folge zu. Im Gaumen fleischig mit stoffigem Extrakt. Er weist eine ausgeglichene Adstringenz auf und deutet auf ein langes Leben hin. Alles ist royal und er hat etwas mehr Finessen wie Power. Eher ein beruhigender Klassiker. Den hatte ich in dieser Blindprobe als Franzosen erkannt."

DECANTER: "I love this from the first nose. It’s not quite as complex as the 2017 at Grand-Puy-Lacoste, never mind the 2016, but this is still an exceptionally good Pauillac in the vintage. There’s black fruits, firm tannins, excellent graphite and slate notes and touches of liquorice with clear depth and length. Very good quality, and carefully extracted, it goes gently into the night. 75% new oak. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040"

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "You can already sense the development of the smoke, truffle, tobacco, pencil lead and cedar in the nose. The wine is soft in texture, full bodied, fresh, lively, and sweet. There is a lot of fruit, and tannin to match, along with the structure and substance to age for decades. With 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc in the blend, this is the first vintage since 2009 in which the estate added Cabernet Franc to the blend."

LISA PERROTTI-BROWN: "Medium to deep garnet in color, the 2015 Grand-Puy-Lacoste sashays out with showy notions of baked black cherries, fruitcake, and dried mulberries, plus a waft of redcurrant jelly, Indian spices, and incense. The medium-bodied palate is lively and plush, with tons of expressive black and red berry preserves flavors and a wonderfully spicy finish."

WINE ENTHUSIAST: "The wine from this estate, owned by one of the great Bordeaux families, is already balanced between fruit and tannins. Black currants from the Cabernet Sauvignon comes through strongly, giving a juicy character to the wine's structure. It is rich and will mature well. Drink from 2025."

JANCIS ROBINSON: "Tasted blind. Fragrant. Cool and zesty and very well put together. Really quite refined and fresh. Not trying to be a blockbuster but the balance is superb."

WINE SPECTATOR: "This is on the charming side of the spectrum, with a rounded hint to the mix of violet-infused plum and cherry fruit, accented by notes of singed cedar and sandalwood. Light black tea and warm cast iron accents pervade the finish, returning this to a more typical Pauillac profile. Best from 2020 through 2032."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2015 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is medium garnet-purple colored with a nose of red and black currants, cedar chest and roses with a touch of dusty earth. The medium-bodied mouth is chewy, with lively fruit and good balance."

JEB DUNNUCK: "The 2015 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is another classic wine that shines for its elegance, balance, and sheer class. Offering medium-bodied notes of crème de cassis, crushed flowers, new leather, and ample tobacco, it has good tension and concentration, a fresh, tight texture, and outstanding length. It has some upside and will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age, at which point it should drink nicely for two decades or more."
