  Composed of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2009 Phelan Segur is medium to deep garnet in color. It conjures up the most gorgeous perfume of chocolate-covered cherries, candied violets, and warm cassis, giving way to nuances of tar, underbrush, and licorice. The medium-bodied palate is chock full of juicy black fruits and floral nuances, framed by beautifully ripe, plush tannins and fantastic tension, finishing long and perfumed."

  The 2009 Château Phelan Ségur is a big, rich, powerful wine from this terrific Saint-Estèphe. Revealing a ruby/plum color as well as a complex nose of brambly red and black fruits, damp earth, chocolate, graphite, and a touch of truffle, this beauty hits the palate with a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel, ripe, silky tannins, and a big finish. It's in its adolescent years, where its baby fat has just started to melt away, and its picking up more elegance and finesse. Balanced and just impeccably put together, enjoy bottles any time over the coming two decades."
