Chateau Batailley 2009

Kaufen!"

93 Wine Enthusiast: "Smooth black currant fruit with great density as well as superripeness. The wine is charming, while still having a powerful structure. Still a relative value in Pauillac, Batailley is now showing real class."

93 James Suckling: "Blackberry, dark chocolate and currants on the nose, follow through to a full body, with beautifully polished tannins and a long caressing finish. Fresh and refined. Best ever from here. Always excellent value. Try after 2018."

92 The Wine Advocate: "Medium-deep saturated color. Pleasing, but not fully forthcoming nose is sweet and smoky, with some cherry, cedar, herbs, and spice in the background. Quite modern in style on the palate. This is one of the biggest, most intense wines in the tasting, impressive for its size and mouthfeel. However, the alcohol is too prominent right now. Otherwise, the ripe fruit and smoky oak have a seductive quality, especially as #12 sits in the glass. Acidity and tannin levels are moderate, while the finish is long and penetrating. You’ll be rewarded for giving 2009 Batailley time to come together."

91 Wine Spectator: "A chewy core of black currant, tobacco and roasted apple wood stretches out through the grip-framed finish. Fresh acidity rides underneath to keep it all lively. A solid version, with a throwback hint. Best from 2013 through 2023."

James Suckling: "A rich yet dry Pauillac that's now very attractive to drink and has a good harmony in spite of the generous alcohol. Long, supple finish. Drink or hold. (Horizontal Tasting, London, 2019)"

Decanter: "This wine showed exceptionally well, both at the the Bordeaux 10 Years On tasting in London a few weeks ago and in the Decanter Premium tasting in New York. It’s great value for this level of Pauillac. Drinking Window 2019 - 2040"

Falstaff: "Dunkles Rubingranat, tiefer Farbkern, zarte Randaufhellung. Zart floral unterlegte feine dunkle Beerenfrucht, frische rote Herzkirschen, ein Hauch von Mandarinenzesten, feines Nougat ist unterlegt. Saftig, reife Herzkirschen, zarte ExtraktsĂĽĂźe, gut integrierte reife Tannine, angenehme Frische, die dem Wein Schwung verleiht, mineralisch im Abgang, gutes weiteres Entwicklungspotenzial, kann noch weiter zulegen."

Jancis Robinson: "Earthy, mushroomy, truffley notes on the nose, as well as stewed bramble fruits and a fine vein of leafy character too. Quite understated in terms of its flavour range – perhaps only just reaching its drinking window."

The Wine Cellar Insider: "Leafy green aromas, forest floor, wet earth, campfire and earthy red fruits hit your glass easily. On the palate, the wine is soft, medium bodied, and spicy, with an earthy red pit fruit finish. This is in its prime time drinking window, so enjoy this classic Pauillac over the next decade or two with ease."
