  • James Suckling

"A scented, fresh and polished Clos du Marquis that shows tension. Medium- to full-bodied, this has blueberries and red berries with attractive minerality. A hint of pencil shavings as well. The tannins are fresh and really chalky and dissolved. 45.5% merlot, 44.5% cabernet sauvignon and 10% cabernet franc. Superb balance makes it pure, almost a bit ethereal and already inviting, but this should be approached after 2028."

"Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Zarte Würze, Brombeerkonfit, tabakige Nuancen, feines Cassis ist unterlegt, Komplex, engmaschig, feine Kirschfrucht, gute Frische, reife, tragende Tannine, etwas Nougat, anhaltend, sicheres Entwicklungspotenzial, würde in jeder Blindverkostung glatt als Pauillac durchgehen, erst im Finish tauchen die Gewürznuancen von St. Julien auf."

"45.5 % Merlot, 44.5 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 % Cabernet Franc, pH 3.7, 14.25 Vol.-%, 34 hl/ha, Presswein 7 %.

"The 2022 Clos Du Marquis is rich, concentrated, and serious, with cassis, graphite, spring flowers, and chalky minerality developing with time in the glass. Full-bodied and incredibly pure on the palate, it has bright acidity, building tannins, and a great finish. This structured yet elegant Saint-Julien should evolve well for at least 2-3 decades if well stored."

  • Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"This is the last vintage to be vinified in the old facilities, there is a new building located clos to Léoville-Las-Cases which was used from 2023 onwards. The assemblage in 2022 is 45.5% Merlot, 44.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, and the press wine accounts for 7% of the blend. The élevage was in 53% new oak barrels. This is aromatically charming, with fresh red fruits, damson and black cherry, with floral notes of peony and rose which lift it out of the glass. It feels very complete on the palate, with a very supple, harmonious and integrated whole, filled with savoury fruits, dark berry and currant, draped over a finessed bed of tannins, finely knit, powdery and yet substantial. It takes on some darker tones through the middle, developing flavours of salted olive and liquorice, the floral fruits giving way to these more brooding elements, before the finish culminates in a flourish of powdered tannins and brilliantly dark fruits. A great Clos du Marquis here. The alcohol on the label is 14%."

  • The Wine Cellar Insider

"Flowers, blackberries, black cherries, and creme de cassis accented by Cuban cigars hit the spot. The wine is long, supple, creamy, and elegant. There is freshness, length, and purity with a regal touch to the finish that makes you take a step back, think about it, and enjoy another sip. Already effortless to drink, the next two or more decades are going to be even better! The wine blends 45.5% Merlot, 44.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2026-2045."

  • The Wine Advocate

"The 2022 Clos du Marquis is lovely, unwinding in the glass with notes of inky berries and cherries mingled with attractive floral nuances of rose petals and violets. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and suave, it's layered and concentrated, with a dense and lively core of fruit, beautiful purity and a long, penetrating finish."

  • Wine Enthusiast

"The smoky character of this wine shows in the aroma while supporting the layers of black fruits and core of solid tannins. The wine's acidity and blackberry fruits are textured with a juicy character. Drink from 2028."

  • Decanter

"Dried flowers, coffee, chocolate, cinnamon and black cherry scents on the nose, smells enticing. Cool and fresh on the palate, a real push of juicy blueberry fruit and lots of mineral markers in the liquorice, pencil lead, slate and graphite that really linger on the tongue. It's still a little intense and compact with the power more on show than the energy and brightness at this point but it's well worked with a streamlined frame and nice terroir markers."

  • Wine Spectator

" This sports a strapping feel, with blackberry and boysenberry compote notes that show solid, brambly energy, backed by licorice snap and roasted apple wood, while a streak of warm earth runs underneath. Shows the warmth of the vintage, but with good latent energy. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2040."
