  "Aromatically, the wine pops with incense, espresso, licorice, plums, cherries, flowers, and chocolate. However, the star of the show is the mineral-driven palate with its layers of perfectly ripe, fruits, and the velvet-edged, creamy finish, with its salt-crusted end note. Part of the reason the 2022 is so strong is that Le Defi was not produced this year. So all of that fruit was included in the Fontenil bottling. Drink from 2026-2042."

  "Due to a devastating hailstorm, no Delfi will be produced this vintage, and yields are minuscule. However, the 2022 Château Fontenil from this remarkable winemaker is well worth seeking out. Loads of cassis, ripe black cherries, spicy wood, and savory, incense-like notes all define the aromatics, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a broad, layered mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and a gorgeous finish. All Merlot that was raised 18 months in just 30% new oak, this fabulous Fronsac can be enjoyed any time over the coming two decades or more. The 2022 hit 14% alcohol with a great pH of 3.68."

  "This firm and polished red has notes of dark chocolate, cedar, dark cherries and rosemary. It’s full-bodied, compact and framed, but creamy, too. Elegant cedar notes. Drink from 2027."

  "A bold and open nose full of blackcurrants, liquorice and purple flowers. Despite the richness on the nose, this has a lovely vein of bright and focussed acidity running through the middle edged by just-grippy tannins, red berry fruit and ending with a dose of toasted spice. It's packed full of flavour but not overwhelming with a soft finish that leaves you wanting more. Very enjoyable."
