  "In two tastings this garagiste wine performed as if it were one of the wines of the vintage. Proprietor Stefan von Neipperg continues to lavish abundant attention on La Mondotte (as he does with all his estates), and the 2000 (80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc) boasts an inky/blue/purple color in addition to gorgeous aromas of graphite, caramel, toast, blackberries, and creme de cassis. A floral component also emerges as the wine sits in the glass. Extremely dense, full-bodied, and built for another twenty years of cellaring, I thought it would be close to full maturity, but it appears to need another 4-5 years of bottle age. It should age effortlessly for 2-3 decades."

  "Stunning in every sense of the wine, this has gotten better and better with time. There is a great sensation of purity of fruit, supple, silky, decadent textures, intensity, concentration of flavor of ripe, polished tannins. The finish doesn't just last, it expands. This is drinking great now and it's not yet mature. This will only improve with age. Drink it now, in 5, 10, 15 or 20 years from today."

  "Tiefdunkles Purpur, dicht. Leuchtendes Granat-Rubin. Wuchtige, ausufernde Nase, viel Süsse in Form von fast marmeladiger, aber auch pfeffriger Frucht, rahmige Fülle, Malzspuren, Dörrpflaumen und Pralinen. Im Gaumen reich, dick und cremig, rollende, opulente Gerbstoffe, zur Fülle auch ebenso viele stützende, sich perfekt verteilende Tannine, extrem druckvolles Finale, bei dem sich alle Aromen noch einmal überschlagen, sich zu einem der besten Weinen des noch jungen Weingutes entwickelnd, nahe der 20-Punkte-Grenze."

  "This is really seductive, with lush boysenberry pâte de fruit, warmed plum sauce and alluring black currant reduction notes that have melded wonderfully with subtle ganache and roasted apple wood flavors.
