Dunkles Weinrot, aufhellend mit erstem, zartem Reifeschimmer. Recht offenes Bouquet, Brotkrustenton, Haselnussnoten, heller Kaffee und reife Pflaumen. Im Gaumen mit erstem Charme, sanft kompottige Frucht, gut stützende Tannine, Muskeln und Länge verleihend, im Finale fast etwas burgundisch, mit dem Kreuzkümmel und den Kardamomnoten fast etwas an einen La Tâche erinnernd. Beim ersten Schluck hat man das Gefühl, dass der Wein eine erste Trinkreife erreicht hat, im Nachklang sind die Tannine aber (noch) zu trocken."
The 1999 Pavie is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. It springs out with spritely notes of redcurrant jelly, Morello cherries, and blackberry preserves giving way to suggestions of red roses, tobacco leaf, and pencil lead with a touch of tapenade. The medium-bodied palate has bags of energy, with a fine-grained texture and lively line to lift the long, mineral-laced finish."

This wine has a very youthful color and seems to be close to full maturity, without the density of the 1998, or its successor, the perfect 2000. It has abundant foresty notes, plenty of spice box, blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, some background toasty oak, medium to full body and sweet tannin. A very delicious wine, it offers a complex and fragrant style."
A relatively forgotten year sandwiched between the great '98 (for the Right Bank) and '00, this is gentle, with mulled plum and red currant fruit supported with light cedar and alder notes. Mature, with dried tobacco and a flash of earth through the finish. Not in the league of the other wines in this flight, but, notably, it doesn't feel as if this wine was overdone; rather, it's an accurate expression of the vintage."
