Chateau Margaux - Pavillon Rouge 2012

WEINWISSER: WEINWISSER:"Aufhellendes Granat mit mittlerer Dichte, feiner Rand. Das Bouquet beginnt floral, etwas kühl vielleicht, dafür würzig, schlank im Ansatz, ohne an Aromen zu verlieren. Fein im Gaumen, sehr langgezogen, deutliche Cabernet-Anzeige, im Finale Lakritze und schwarzer Holunder, klingt unglaublich lange nach. Ein bemerkenswerter Pavillon Rouge. Mit rund 100 000 Flaschen eine eher kleine Menge. Die Selektion entspricht 30 % der Ernte, normalerweise sind es etwa 36 % Anteil."

WINE ENTHUSIAST: WINE ENTHUSIAST:"Barrel sample. An austere wine that has distinct acidity and a black-currant character. The texture is tannic and dry, but it's fragrant with a light green note that comes through at the end."

WINE SPECTATOR: WINESPECTATOR:"Pure, bright and mouthwatering, with melon rind, honeysuckle and quinine notes rippling along beautifully, accented by green almond on the finish. Hums like a just-struck tuning fork. Seriously long. Bring on the blanquette de veau. Drink now through 2021."

JANCIS ROBINSON: JANCIS ROBINSON:"Tasted blind. Smudgy dark crimson. High toned. Really coats the palate in the most seductive way. Fully ripe and utterly hedonistic but not sweet. Layers of interest. However did they do it?"

JAMES SUCKLING: JAMES SUCKLING:"A gorgeous red now with chocolate, berry and light mineral character. Full body, round and velvety tannins. So drinkable now and yummy. A blend of 63% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot, 1% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot. Drink or hold."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: THE WINEADVOCATE:"The second wine of Margaux, the Pavillon Rouge (63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot), exhibits more structure and masculinity than one normally expects. It has a deep ruby/purple color, nice floral and blackcurrant notes, some spice box, moderate tannin and medium body. This is a Pavillon Rouge that should admirably stand the test of time for 15-20 years. Its impressively long finish adds to its appeal and value. This wine will actually benefit from several years of bottle age and keep for 20 years."
