  • The Wine Cellar Insider

Deep, rich, intense, long, and hedonistic, this thrill ride includes layers of perfectly ripe, mineral-tinted, red, black, and blue fruits. There is length, purity, volume, and expansiveness, as well as balance, freshness, and complexity here. The finish lingers with more of those beautiful fruits. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2026-2048."

Spice-laden red and black fruits, leafy tobacco, savory flowers, and new leather notes all shine in the 2022 Château Tour Saint Christophe, another brilliant wine from this team. I love its complexity, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with fine tannins, a layered, elegant mouthfeel, beautifully integrated oak, and a great finish. Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc brought up in 25% new French oak, give bottles 3-5 years if you can and enjoy over the following 15+."

  • James Suckling

A very good year for Tour Saint Christophe, showing great depth and flavor despite high alcohol. Abundant dark minerals, fresh blackberries, black olives and a hint of cocoa powder. Pretty full-bodied and firm with crunchy, reactive tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Lots of density here. Drink from 2027."

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Schokolade, reife Herzkirschen, etwas Lakritze, feine Edelholznuancen, kandierte Orangenzesten, einladendes Bukett. Saftig, elegant, feine Kirschfrucht, finessenreich strukturiert, mineralisch-kalkig, kühler Stil, bleibt gut haften, zeigt Potenzial, gutes Reifepotenzial."

Concentrated dark fruit and liquorice notes on the nose - smells ripe and expressive.Lovely purity of fruit, really clean and precise in terms of flavour and texture - tannins are sleek and really drive the wine from start to finish. Feels well proportioned, not too light or too heavy but with sinewy muscle and an undertone of cool blue fruit, crushed stones and hints of espresso. The 15% alcohol is barely noticeable and this is very charming in a rich, almost plush, heady way."

This first vintage under the denomination of Grand Cru Classé, the 2022 Tour Saint Christophe is excellent, offering up aromas of spices, cassis, dark wild berries, orange peel and licorice mingled with delicate oaky notes. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's layered and textured and framed by powdery, velvety tannins enhanced by a racy, pure, fresh finish. It should gain raciness with some time in the cellar."

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, with élevage in 25% new oak barrels, 15% foudre s and the remainder in used oak barrels, after which this was bottled in July 2024. A dense nose, of lightly confit fruits, dried black cherry overlaid with cedary oak, sandalwood and a touch of matchstick. Despite this the palate starts with a rather juicy attack, with black raspberry, cherry and blackberry fruits wrapped up in cedar, toast, sandalwood and lactone notes from the oak. Beneath all this there is a rich layer of firm and tightly knit tannins, bolstering the plate and dominating the endpalate and length. A very primary composition now which needs five or ten years to shake down all this oak, while the tannins may need even longer. Tasted twice. The alcohol on the label is 15%, although that isn’t apparent on the palate, although I suppose the style goes with it."

  • Jane Anson

Always a reliable, consistent name, classified in 2022, a good quality wine with plenty of enjoyable brambled berry fruits. High alcohol as so many of these later ripening clay-limestone terroirs in the vintage, but it holds it well. Harvest September 10 to October 1, 25% new oak. Located in the commune of St Christophe des Bardes, hence the name. "

  • Jancis Robinson

Mid crimson. Gentle, floral nose. Nothing pushed to extreme and already fairly approachable. Neat, dry finish with some alcohol on the end. Useful, attractive wine for the short term. Light tannins. Fairly short."
