An der Luft zunehmend rosinierend, einem alten Zinfandel nicht unähnlich. Potential und Trinkvergnügen ergäben eigentlich 16/20 Punkte, nur nützt das Potential nichts bei nicht vorhandenem Trinkvergnügen, grüner und krautiger Cabernet Franc."

Seit auf Chateau Troplong Mondot Aymeric de Gironde, ehemaliger Direktor von Chateau Cos d´Estournel, das Ruder übernommen hat, findet hier eine in Bordeaux bis dato wohl einmalige Stilwende statt. Wir blicken zurück in das Jahr 2017, Chateau Troplong Mondot wird von der französischen Versicherungsgruppe Scor übernommen und unmittelbar im Anschluss Aymeric de Gironde als neuer Direktor auserkoren.

Am Gaumen schön viskos mit weißem Pfirsich, Aprikose und dezenter Grapefruit nebst weiteren exotischen Früchten. Schöne Spannung durch eine dezente Bitternote, die diesem Wein perfekte Harmonie und Eleganz verleiht. Lisa Perrotti-Brown: Composed of 92.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.5% Merlot, the 2019 Latour is deep garnet-purple in color. It comes barreling out of the glass with powerful notes of blackcurrant jelly, blackberry pie, and plum preserves, followed by suggestions of pencil shavings, cast-iron pan, and charcoal. The medium to full-bodied palate is exquisitely constructed with a myriad of very fine layers, supported by ripe, grainy tannins and beautiful tension, finishing epically long and mineral-laced. It's still very tightly wound and will require at least 5 to 7 more years in cellar, then should age gracefully for a good 50-years+."

Decanter: The Valmur from Bessin-Tremblay is full, complete and round - simply superb. The wine is initially a bit closed, but with time, it shows an array of flavours ranging from ripe pear to quince and melon, accented with notes of chalky minerality, fresh white flowers and spice. The texture is elegant yet powerful, with abundant extract but enough acid to balance. The grapes are from just over 2ha in one solid block and the oldest vines were planted in 1947; they are fermented on native yeasts in tank and in barrel (10%)."

Decanter: This expression of Fourchaume is elegant and delicate, with notes of mirabelle plums, grapefruit, lime zest and hazelnut. The texture is fine and silky, with less power than the Pièce au Comte bottling, but still, there is enough substance to draw the wine to a satisfying conclusion. The grapes are from four parcels in Fourchaume that total 1.5ha; they are lightly crushed and fermented in tank and barrel (10%) then aged nearly 18 months before bottling."

The aromatic range is evocative of mirabelle plum, orange peel, fennel and oyster liquor. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with a deep and crystalline core of fruit brimming with energy. Its incisive acidity and saline undertow frame a long, reverberating finish. If Fourchaume is expressive and giving, Valmur is elegantly reserved, and it will demand considerable patience before revealing its cards."

Jeb Dunnuck: Just about as good as it gets, the 2012 Cristal Champagne Rosé is a magical effort based on 56% Pinot Noir and 44% Chardonnay. It’s a powerful, medium to full-bodied, incredibly textured rosé offering a huge amount of salty, chalky minerality as well as awesome notes of white cherries, orange blossom, caramelized apples, and toasted bread. It shows the ripe, rounded richness of the 2012 vintage yet has bright, racy acidity, perfect balance, and a great, great finish. It opens up nicely with air and will ideally be given 2-4 years of bottle age, and it should evolve for 2-3 decades."

The Wine Advocate: Beychevelle, owners of one of the great terroirs of the northern Medoc, continues to produce wines that are frustratingly irregular in quality. A dark ruby color is followed by a wine revealing plenty of new oak, a touch of pepper, but very little of the vegetal character found in many Medoc 1993s. Spicy fruit is present, but the wine is austere and tannic, although elegant and subtle."
