"Ripe fruit and toasted notes on the nose. Rich and fleshy, this has an initial bounce and lift with juicy acidity and chalky red berry fruit but also quite compact tannins that bring the power to the fore and stop the finish a little short. I love the precision and cool freshness on show but feels a bit tense and lean still. A touch sombre towards the finish, the opulence of the vintage shining through, with the dark fruit emerging alongside notes of bitter chocolate, tobacco, liquorice and aniseed. Full and glamourous but will be nice once the elements harmonise a little more."

"Intense and concentrated, good lift through the palate, bitter cocoa bean edge to it, fennel, liquorice and crushed rocks, raspberry and black cherry. Full barrel vinification and ageing for the Cabernet Sauvignon, Romain Depons director."

  • James Suckling

"Some sweet berries such as plums and cherries with hints of dried bark on both the nose and palate. Medium-bodied and attractive with fluidity as well as firm and silky tannins. Drink after 2027."

"Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Feine rote Kirschfrucht, ein Hauch von Zwetschken, frische Orangenzesten, einladendes Bukett. Saftig, rotbeerige Nuancen, reife Kirschen, gute Frische, mineralisch und anhaftend, etwas Nugat im Nachhall, ein vielversprechender Speisenbegleiter."

"The 2022 Château Dassault is a powerful, inky, concentrated effort that's going to demand – and reward – cellaring. Black cherry liqueur, new leather, graphite, and violet notes define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a juicy spine of acidity, nicely integrated tannins, and a great finish. Hide bottle for 4-6 years, and it's going to drink nicely over the following 15-20 years. The blend is 76% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon that was aged in 60% new barrels, with 11% in foudre and 10% in amphora."

  • Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"The 2022 from the Dassault family’s flagship estate presents a rather dark and smoky layer of fruit on the nose – doesn’t it always – with additional layers of toast, salted liquorice and black pepper. The palate holds together quite nicely, marrying these dark fruit flavours with powdered chalk, honeyed oak, peonies and white pepper, all set against a robust backbone of confidently extracted tannins, very much in the Dassault style. This is a dark, rich and bold St Emilion which finishes with a flourish of grippy tannins which will demand cellar time. But it will get there in the end. Tasted twice."

  • The Wine Cellar Insider

"Deeply colored, the wine is loaded with chocolate, espresso, cinnamon, flowers, and black cherries. The fruits are creamy, luscious, ripe, sweet, and vibrant with a chocolate edge to the berries in the finish. This is an outstanding vintage for Chateau Dassault! Drink from 2025-2042."

  • Wine Spectator

" This shows the lush, warm fruit profile of the vintage, with blackberry and boysenberry notes gliding atop the subtle, graphite-tinged structure, along with black tea, ink and singed alder accents. Will have fans for sure. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2036. 6,000 cases made."
