Chateau Poujeaux 2009

WEINWISSER: "Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Geniales Bouquet, warmer Cabernet, dunkles Malz, Kandis und Backpflaumen, zarte Kräuternoten darin. Im Gaumen füllig, harmonisch, erhaben, cremige Textur, Lakritze und Black Current im Finale. Das ist der allergräste und perfekteste Poujeaux den ich je verkostete. Und da rechne ich die grossen Jahrgänge 1928, 1945 und 1961 mit ein! 5 Mal probiert bei verschiedenen Gelegenheiten. (19/20). 14: Sehr süss, viele reife Pflaumen, dezent laktisch (Milchkaffee). Ein sehr komplexer Wein welcher im grossen Grand-Cru-Feld mit mischt. Ausser beim Preis (19/20). 16: Leicht mattes Purpur, satte Mitte. Begeisterndes Nasenbild, füllig, süss, Edelholzer, Milchkaffee, reife Pflaumen, weit ausladend. Im Gaumen mit pfeffriger Rasse, konzentriertem Extrakt und powervollen Finale. Braucht noch ein Bisschen, aber nicht mehr lange. Ganz grosser Poujeaux!"

JAMES SUCKLING: "Intense aromas of orange peel, blackberries and hints of mushrooms. Full body, with a solid core of soft and velvety tannins and a fruity finish. Well structured. One of the best wines from here in years. Try after 2017."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: 92 PARKER THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The final blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot was cropped very low at 35 hectoliters per hectare. Deep purple, with a nose of subtle smoke, graphite, blueberry and black raspberry fruit as well as some spring flowers, in the mouth a touch of oak makes an appearance, but the wine is full-bodied, rich, inky and unctuously textured due to the high glycerin and alcohol that hits 14% plus. This beauty should drink well for up to two decades. The finest wine I have tasted from Poujeaux over the last 33 years, the 2009 is the second vintage under the ownership of the Cuvelier family, who made the absolutely monumental 2009 Clos Fourtet. This large vineyard of over 100 acres has always had a relatively lofty reputation for the best wine of Moulis. The consultants on the 2009 were Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt, and they have produced a blockbuster Poujeaux that certainly qualifies as one of the sleepers of the vintage it is a wine to seek out, as it is reasonably priced."
