"It is a toss-up as to whether the 1990 or 1989 is the better vintage for La Dominique. The 1989 might have a bit more structure and definition, but still shares many of the same characteristics that make the 1990 so special. The opaque ruby/purple color is showing a bit of pink at the rim, but the lavishly exotic nose of blackberries, creme de cassis, vanilla, licorice, coffee, and toast soars from the glass. The very viscous, thick, juicy flavors are succulent, full-bodied, and very sweet and expansive. This exuberant yet slightly more structured vintage than the 1990 for La Dominique seems to have only great things ahead of it, but why defer your gratification? Anticipated maturity: Now-2012."

Chateau La Dominique

Chateau La Dominique verdankt seinen Namen seinem ersten Eigentümer. Dieser machte auf der gleichnamigen Karibikinsel La Dominique ein Vermögen, mit dem er dieses Weingut aufbaute. 1969 erwarb Chateau La Dominique die in Bordeaux ansässige, große Baugruppe Clément Fayet. Ihr gehören noch weitere namhafte Châteaux. Die exzellenten Böden von La Dominique sind die Grundlage für einen wirklich herausragenden Wein. Die Nachbarn von La Dominique können sich übrigens sehen lassen: Cheval Blanc, Figeac, L'Évangile und La Conseillante. Michel Rolland verantwortet Jahr für Jahr die Vinifikation. Der Anteil neuer Fässer liegt bei 70%, der Wein reift für 18 Monate, bevor er in die Flasche gefüllt wird. Der Rebsortenspiegel besteht zu 81% aus Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc und 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Die Weinberge von Chateau La Dominique erstrecken sich über 30 Hektar.
