2009 IX ESTATE PROPRIETARY RED - 99 JAMES SUCKLING: "Phenomenal aromas and flavors of pure fruit with stones and rock. Turns to mint and eucalyptus. Full body, with powerful yet polished tannins. Creamy and fresh. Changes continually. The finish goes on for minutes Savory. And juicy.” 97 THE WINADVOCATE: "Composed of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2009 IX Estate exhibits a flowery bouquet with notes of subtle smoke, blackberries, black currants, kirsch and baking spices. Rich, deep and full-bodied, this voluptuous, sensational blend boasts an inky/purple color. While approachable, it should hit its stride in 4-5 years and last for two to three decades." Drink: 2017 - 2047. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.” 98 ANTONIO GALLONI VINOUS: "The 2009 IX Estate Red Wine is another breathtaking wine. It is the coolest, most inward of these 2009s. Graphite, tar, smoke, savory herbs, licorice and black fruit are some of nuances that emerge from the IX Estate. Here, too, the tannins are quite imposing at this stage, but the integration of fruit and structure is superb. This has more than enough stuffing to age for a number of years. The 2009 IX Estate is 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot."
2009 CARIAD - 98 JAMES SUCKLING: "Ripe and rich fruit on the nose with dried berry and dark chocolate character. Full body, with a seamless and stunning texture. It goes on for minutes. Phenomenal texture. Sexy. Drink or hold.” 98 ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2009 Cariad Red Wine is a blend of fruit sourced from Thorevilos and Madrona Ranch in St. Helena. It is deep, sensual and beautifully balanced in its dark black fruit, menthol, spices and licorice. This is a much firmer and more structured wine than the Tychson Hill. It doesn´t have that wine´s sheer early appeal, but it does have the structure to age gracefully for years. Smoke, savory herbs and licorice are some of the notes that frame the explosive finish. The blend is 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot." 94 THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2009 Proprietary Red Cariad is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot. This full-bodied red reveals slightly more forest floor, menthol, bouquet garni, espresso roast, blackberry and black currant characteristics as well as more tannin than the Tychson Hill. It comes across like an elegant hybrid blend of a rich Bordeaux-styled wine from Napa Valley with a focused, structured, French sensitivity. It should age effortlessly for 20-25 years." Drink: 2013 - 2038. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
2009 IX ESTATE SYRAH - 97 JAMES SUCKLING: "This shows so much dark fruit, spice, berry and minerals incense. Full body, with lots of black pepper, spice and berry. It´s so dense and beautiful. The purity of fruit is all there. Hard not to drink now. But will improve for many years ahead." 96 ANTONIO GALLONI: "We started with three wines from Napa Valley, as I wanted to open with wines that presented a sense of familiarity. Did they ever. The Araujo and Colgin Syrahs had something in common in that they were first and foremost wines of place. Along similar lines, 2009 Colgin´s Syrah from IX Estate on Pritchard Hill, was very much defined by a hillside sense of structure." 95 THE WINEADVOCATE: "I could have sworn the 2009 IX Estate Syrah had some Viognier in it, but all of these wines are 100% Syrah. Flowery, peppery, blackberry and bacon aromas reminiscent of a Cote Rotie jump from the glass. However, once in the mouth, the masculinity, power, awesome richness and incredible texture come forward. This killer Syrah should drink well for 20 or more years." Drink: 2013 - 2033. - RobertM. Parker, Jr.
2009 TYCHSON HILL - 97 ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill is a gorgeous wine laced with dark red fruit, flowers and spices. It reveals the silkiest of tannins and remarkable grace throughout. All of the aromas and flavors wrap around beautifully to a deep, sensual finish layered with sweet floral notes. This is a sensual, totally dazzling Cabernet. In 2009 the blend is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot." 95 THE WINEADVOCATE: "Production was tiny in 2009. From a 2.5-acre site, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill Vineyard offers lots of black currant, black cherry, plum, licorice and toasty oak characteristics along with beautiful purity and balance. The wine hits the palate with surprising suppleness for a 2009, medium to full-bodied richness, and a classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon personality. It can be drunk now or cellared for 20-25 years." - Robert M. Parker, Jr. 95 JAMES SUCKLING: "This pops out of the glass with ripe fruit and spice, violets and mint. Full body, with round and velvety tannins and a lot of currant and berry character. Hints of minerals and spices. Toasty oak. Coffee. Juicy and intense. Savory. Drink or hold."
