Noch ist Steinpilzzeit! Und was gibt es schöneres als frische, gebratene, wohl duftende Steinpilze, dazu den formidablen 2016 DUMOL CHARDONNAY HYDE VINEYARD, der mit dem Jahrgang 2016 nicht nur Bewertungen bis 98 Punkten erzielt hat, sondern zu Steinpilzen wie die Faust aufs Auge passt.   Fährt man von San Francisco in Richtung Norden und folgt nach der Golden Gate Bridge der Route ins Napa Valley, gelangt man zu allererst in das Carneros Anbaugebiet. Hier, noch direkt an der San Pablo Bay gelegen, wo auch im Hochsommer der Pazifik-Einfluss mit kühlen Winden und morgendlichem Nebel das Klima dominiert, stehen mit die besten Weißwein-Rebanlagen ganz Kaliforniens. Die kühlen Nächte und Winde sorgen hier für einen langsame Reifung der Trauben mit Balance, Tiefe und straffer Säure. Der HYDE VINEYARD, nunmehr 25 Jahre alt, wird seit 16 Jahren von DUMOL bearbeitet und bringt Jahr für Jahr beeindruckende Chardonnays hervor. Ein alter Wente Clone namens „Livermore old Wente clone“ der von Andy Smith, dem Winemaker von DUMOL mit lediglich 30% neuem Holz sehr behutsam ausgebaut wird, brachte mit dem Jahrgang 2016 einen unglaublichen Chardonnay von Weltformat hervor. "The 2016 Chardonnay Clare comes from the Hyde vineyard in Carneros, planted to Old Wente clone vines that are now over 20 years old. Ripe grapefruit, white peaches and lemon curd scents leap flamboyantly from the glass with wafts of orange blossoms, struck match, fresh ginger and coriander seed plus a touch of chalk dust. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with citrus and stone fruit layers with loads of spicy sparks and a beautiful satiny texture, finishing very long and mineral laced." 96 ANTONIO GALLONI:
