"This estate has been on fire in recent vintages, and the 2018 Château Léoville Barton is up there with the best of them. Based on 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot that was brought up in 60% new French oak, this classic, flawlessly balanced, straight-up awesome Saint-Julien has loads of cassis and mulberry fruits as well as notes of freshly sharpened pencils, leafy tobacco, chocolate, and earth. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it has building tannins and healthy acidity, yet the fruit is pure, perfectly ripe, and wonderfully integrated with all the wine's components. As is normal with this cuvée, it closes down with extended air and is going to take a solid 8-10 years of bottle age to reach the early stages of maturity. It's going to evolve for 30-40 years in cold cellars."

"With a dark, inky, purple accented hue, the perfume pops with all its ripe, blackberry and currants, accompanied by cigar box, forest floor, herbs, cedar and cigar wrapper notes. Full-bodied, concentrated, powerful, yet refined, the finish is deep, long and intense. Wait at least a decade before pulling a cork. It is going to be difficult to pick the best vintage of Leoville Barton from the 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2018 but it is going to be fun tasting them together over the next several decades. The wine blends 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18%."

Clear charcoal, graphite and woodsmoke as it opens up. A ton of life ahead, and an appealing sense of mint freshness. Lives up to its en primeur promise - this is Léoville Barton at its most confident. Drinking Window 2026 - 2040"

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Léoville Barton needs a little swirling to coax out delicate notions of fresh blackberries, mulberries and cassis, plus touches of pencil shavings, clove oil, charcoal and black truffles. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers a great intensity of earth and mineral-laced black fruit flavors, supported by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. Give it a good 4-5 years in bottle and drink it over the next 20 years+."

Chateau Leoville Barton

Chateau Leoville Barton – es lohnt sich! Auch in Jahrgängen, die eher als Pomerol- oder St.-Emilion-Jahrgänge zählen, werden auf Chateau Leoville Barton in Bordeaux überragende Weine hergestellt, die mit jedem einzelnen Schluck die Reputation des ganzen Bordelais rechtfertigen. Ein Chateau, das es faustdick hinter dem Etikett hat. Es lohnt sich also! Rotwein, den man bedenkenlos kaufen kann Ab 1982 können Sie jeden Jahrgang von Chateau Leoville Barton unbedenklich kaufen, das wird Ihnen jeder Weinhändler bestätigen. Leoville Barton ist generell und in jedem Jahrgang eine absolut sichere Bank. Mittlerweile sind die alten Grand Cru Weine gesuchte Raritäten. Die Reben gedeihen auf mineralhaltigem Terroir mit Kies- und Lehmböden, die die beste Voraussetzung für großartige Weine bieten. Bemerkenswert ist, dass dieser Saint Julien trotz des mit mehr als 70% recht hohen Cabernet Sauvignon Anteils immer sehr weich ist, dabei aber auch beeindruckende Noten von dunkler Schokolade zeigt. Der Rest der Cuvée besteht übrigens zu 20% aus der Rebsorte Merlot und 8% Cabernet Franc. Der Besitzer Anthony Barton – Gentleman und Grandseigneur Lassen Sie mich noch etwas über Anthony Barton, den leider im Januar 2022 verstorbenen Besitzer von Chateau Leoville Barton und einer der profiliertesten Saint Julien-Botschafter, erzählen. Er war ein Sir alter englischer Schule, ausgestattet mit einem subkutanen Humor allerfeinster Ausprägung, ein Familienvater, Opa und Unternehmer, wie er sympathischer, freundschaftlicher und weitblickender nicht sein konnte. Ich achtete ihn sehr! Anthony übernahm das Chateau in Bordeaux erst 1983 von seinem Onkel, Ronald Barton. Seitdem führte er die Tradition des von Hugh Barton im Jahr 1826 gekauften Gutes mit seinen 47 Hektar Rebflächen fort. Ein Mann, der Kultstatus erlangte. Seine Tochter Lilian Barton Sartorius leitet mittlerweile mit ihrem Mann Michel Sartorius zusammen das Familienunternehmen. Beteiligt sind auch ihre beiden Kinder Mélanie und Damien. Green Spot Chateau Leoville Barton Was viele nicht wissen, in den Barriques von Chateau Leoville Barton reifen nicht nur hochwertige Grand Cru Weine, sondern auch ein Whiskey mit dem Namen Green Spot. Der wird gemeinsam mit dem Yellow Spot Whiskey von der alteingesessenen Middleton Distillery für den Whiskyhändler Mitchell & Sons aus Dublin hergestellt. Pro Jahr werden davon nur einige tausend Flaschen produziert. Wir empfehlen Ihnen, dem Chateau einen Besuch abzustatten, wenn Sie einmal in der Nähe sind.
