Chateau La Tour Figeac 2020

The Wine Advocate: "A strong effort that features 40% Cabernet France, the 2020 La Tour Figeac derives from vineyards bordering Figeac where the latter's vein of clay soils peters out. Offering up aromas of dark berries, orange rind, peonies and vine smoke, it's medium to full-bodied, with powdery tannins and a sapid, succulent core of fruit. It will appeal to readers who gravitate toward Cabernet Franc."

James Suckling: "This is textured and polished with a medium body offering aromas of ripe plums and mulberries, some dark chocolate and dark spices. Ripe and supple tannin structure and creamy finish. Better after 2024."

Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from vines located between Cheval Blanc and Figeac, from more sandy soils, the 2020 Château La Tour Figeac reveals a deep ruby/purple hue as well as gorgeous aromatics of red and black fruits, loamy earth, flowers, and spice. Pure elegance on the palate, it's not massive and offers more medium-bodied richness, yet has terrific mid-palate depth, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. This is a great vintage for this estate, and while it’s already hard to resist, this beauty should evolve for 15-20 years in cold cellars."

Falstaff: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Etwas zurückhaltend, ein Hauch von Herzkirschen, reife Pflaumen, Anklänge von Orangenzesten, feine tabakige Nuancen. Saftig, elegant, süße Frucht, lebendig strukturiert, runde, reife Tannine, ein Hauch von Nougat, ein ausgewogener Speisenwein mit sicherem Reifepotenzial."

The Wine Cellar Insider: "Flowers, licorice, and smoke with fresh red berries create the nose. On the palate, the wine is elegant, silky and fresh, as well as supple, long and packed with dark chocolate, black cherries, espresso and licorice, there is length and refinement here. Drink from 2023-2040."

Weinwisser: "Tiefes Purpur mit opaker Mitte. Vielschichtiges Bouquet mit edler Cassiswürze, parfümierten Pfeifentabak und exotischen Hölzern, dahinter Lakritze, dunkle Schokotrüffel und Lavendelnoten. Druckvoller Gaumen, weiche Textur, feinkörnige Extraktfülle, stützende Rasse und mittlerer Körper. Im gebündelten Finale schwarzbeerige Konturen, Wacholder und fein sandige Adstringenz. Kann noch zulegen! "

Decanter: "Striking nose, full on, potent and heady. Less plush on the palate than expected. More sleek and cool red and blue fruits than jammy or over extracted. Still lots of tension here, the oak aspects restricting some of the enjoyment at this stage, but sleek and well defined. A spiced aspect is clear with toast and smoke and lots of sticky black liquorice so wait a few years before opening. Good clarity, feels well worked with energy."

Jancis Robinson: "Heady, opulent nose. Lots of energy and richness with a rich biscuit flavour that’s quite distinctive. New-wave St-Émilion?! Good balance and intrigue. Long and leaves the palate refreshed."
