Colgin - Tychson Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill is an absolutely profound wine, dense, bluish purple color to the rim with a stunning nose of acacia flowers, graphite, blueberry and blackcurrant fruit. The wine is full-bodied and displays a multi-dimensional, skyscraper-like mouthfeel with no sense of heaviness or weight. An incredibly pure, rich, gorgeously constructed wine from a fabulous terroir, this is a stunner to drink now and over the next 30+ years."

FALSTAFF: "Rauch und Erde, wie kalte Holzfeuerasche auf feuchtem Boden, und etwas feuchtes Eichenlaub prägen die Pflaumenfrucht in der Nase. Mit Luft kommt ein Hauch von Blutorangenschalen zum Vorschein. Der Gaumen ist unglaublich konzentriert mit feinsten, dichten Tanninen, die sich aufzulösen beginnen, sich in Samt verwandeln. Außerordentlich elegant."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Deep in color, with a perfume that's on the floral side with cassis, licorice, smoke, black cherry and cocoa to add to the complexity. On the palate, the wine is deeply concentrated, rich, plush and polished, with an elegant, refined character in the finish."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Aromas of black fruits, hay, hazelnut and chocolate that move to wet earth and mushroom, then flowers. Sous bois too. Full-bodied, yet caressing and polished. Velvety texture. Flavorful. Toasted and juicy with a violet undertone. Weightlessness in the wine despite being dense. Out March 2016."

DECANTER: This vintage is reputed to be easygoing and fruit-forward, but this wine shows remarkable density on the nose, which is rich in black fruits. Very rich and suave, it also shows a light and attractive herbal tone and some red fruits. The tannins are integrated, and the finish is fresh and perky, with admirable length.

WINE SPECTATOR: "Exhibits a gravelly, crushed rock dustiness woven through the chunky dark berry, dried herb and savory flavors. Complex aromas of cedar, fresh-cut flowers and anise are the initial lure. More trim than opulent on the palate, most impressive on the long finish. Drink now through 2024. 390 cases made."
