Chateau Latour 2012

Der Chateau Latour 2012 präsentiert sich in einem dunklen Rubingranat mit violetten Reflexen und zarter Randaufhellung. Sein komplexes Bouquet offenbart eine dezente Kräuterwürze, unterlegt mit dunkler Beerenfrucht, tabakigen Anklängen und zarten rotbeerigen Nuancen. Am Gaumen entfaltet sich eine beeindruckende Präzision – mittlerer Körper mit fester Struktur, feinkörnigen Tanninen und nahtloser Frische. Die Aromen von Crème de Cassis, gebackenen Pflaumen und neuem Leder werden durch Noten von Gewürzen und Sandelholz ergänzt. Der Abgang ist lang, erdverbunden und von salzigem Nachhall geprägt. Ein klassischer, muskulöser Wein mit aristokratischer Ausstrahlung und beeindruckender Finesse.

    "Re-release of the 2012 vintage, the first one that came off the Place de Bordeaux, and it is moving into its drinking window at 14 years old, although as ever with Latour there is no rush to drink this, and the wine seems in a similar place to my last tasting in 2022. Plenty of Pauillac typicity in terms of blackcurrant and bilberry fruit shot through with mint leaf and cedar, given depth and character with fennel, liquorice, crayon, crushed rocks, graphite. Muscular tannins but with enough light in between to make this a relatively early-drinking Latour. Harvest September 24 to October 16."

    "90,2 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 9,6 % Merlot, 0,2 % Petit Verdot. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit violetten und schwarzen Reflexen. Viel dunkles Malz im ersten Ansatz, schwarze Oliven, Pumpernickelbrot, Korinthen, Rauch, Périgord- Trüffel, Teer und getrocknete Heidelbeeren. Erhabener Gaumen, der Cabernet Sauvignon ist mächtig und bildet eine gaumenumfassende, verlangende, aber auch ausgeglichene Adstringenz. Ein gros ser Klassiker, fast schon im alten Latour-Stil. Erinnert mich stark an eine Mischung aus 1988 bis 1986 und 1995. Beim Vergleich mit dem letztgenannten Millésime bin ich mir ganz sicher, denn wir konnten den 1995er Latour gleichzeitig mit diesem 2012er-Primeurmuster bei unserem Besuch verkosten. Motto: Den zu jungen spucken – den fast reifen schlucken!"

    "The 2012 Latour is a blend of 90.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9.6% Merlot and 0.2% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep garnet colored, the nose slowly, measuredly emerges with notions of preserved Morello cherries, baked blackcurrants and blackberry compote, giving way to nuances of pencil shavings, unsmoked cigars, Chinese five spice and sandalwood plus ever so subtle hints of cardamom and eucalyptus. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating black and red fruit preserves with a firm, grainy-textured frame and fantastic freshness, finishing with a veritable firework display of lingering spices and minerals. This is a more restrained, relatively elegant vintage of Latour that may not have that “iron fist in a velvet glove” power of the greatest vintages but nonetheless struts its superior terroir and behind-the-scenes savoir faire with impressive panache. It is drinking nicely now with suitably rounded-off, approachable tannins, and the tertiary characters are just beginning to bring some more cerebral elements into the compote of temptingly primary black fruits. But, if you’re looking to drink it in full, flamboyant swing, give it another 5-10 years in bottle and drink it over the next 20-25 years+."

    "The 2012 Latour is medium to deep garnet colored. It is a little sluggish to begin, delivering oaky notes over a core of creme de cassis, baked plums, and new leather, plus hints of cast-iron pan and cigar box. Medium-bodied, the palate has a solid structure of firm, grainy tannins with seamless freshness and taut, muscular fruit, finishing long and earthy."

    "High-grade Cabernet Sauvignon that still remains a touch austere, with freshness and less polish than the Mouton Rothschild 2012 tasted at the same time, but with similar staying power. Latour’s 2011 vintage was the last that it made available via Bordeaux’s traditional en primeur system, so this 2012 was only released by the estate for the first time in May 2020."

    "Deep in color, with just a hint of lightness around the edge of the glass, the wine is starting to close down. On the palate the wine is full bodied, rich, refined, polished, fresh and long, with a solid essence of fruit, freshness, volume and length. The tannins are refined and there is the structure to age, but this classic, (in all the right ways) requires at least a decade, and probably longer to come around. This is the first vintage for Latour that was not sold En Primeur. It will be interesting to see what the wine is released in about 2012, give or take."

    "This features a terrific, gorgeously delineated graphite note that runs from start to finish, letting the dark plum, black cherry and cassis fruit play out beautifully. Shows a lovely backdrop of charcoal and iron on the finish. Ever so slightly rigid, with a strong graphite expression, this is straight rather than expansive in feel, but seriously long nonetheless. Best from 2018 through 2030. 9,819 cases made."
