JAMES SUCKLING: "Beautiful aromas and flavors of juicy black plums, candied cherries and strawberries. This is also salty and very mineral. Full body, good acidity, velvety tannins and a long, spicy finish. Drink now."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "From the empire of the Neippergs, this brilliant 2012 Clos Marsalette has a gorgeous nose of Christmas fruitcake, cedar wood, smoked herbs, blackcurrants and jammy cherries. It is medium to full-bodied, silky smooth, very sexy, complex and a total hedonistic, intellectual turn-on. The complexity and nuances that the Neipperg winemaking team is able to get in all of its wines is amazing. This is a beauty and a major sleeper of the vintage."

JEB DUNNUCK: "Showing brilliantly, the 2018 Château Barde-Haut comes from a beautiful, cooler terroir on the eastern side of Saint-Emilion. It has a wonderful sense of purity and elegance as well as ripe black cherry and blueberry fruits to go with medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of chocolate, spring flowers, violets, and a kiss of chalky minerality. It's beautifully balanced and has ultra-fine tannins as well as a gorgeous finish. It reminds me of the 2016, with maybe a touch more up-front charm. Give it 4-5 years if you can (it's drinking beautifully today as well) and it's going to evolve for 20-25 years or more."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Try to imagine the most beautiful exotic-fruit coulis, and then you have an idea of how this new style of Sauternes smells. Stunning concentration and purity of flavor. The knife-edge acidity electrifies the palate and turns the finish into a fireworks display of fruit and mineral freshness. You could drink this now, but its got enormous aging potential."

WINE ENTHUSIAST: "The wine is powered both by its tannins and by its great fruit. Dark and dense both in the structure and the black-plum flavors, it is very fine wine– juicy and ripe. This is a serious wine with a great future. Drink from 2026."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Very deep-set aromas of blackberries and red and dark plum fruits, set amid integrated oak spices, cedar and hints of earth. The palate has a super plush feel with intense flavors of blueberries and dark plums. Succulent tannins that are smooth, entrancing and very long. Try from 2022."
THE WINE ADVOCATE: "One of the von Neipperg estates, the 2012 Clos de l´Oratoire is an undeniable success story. Dense ruby/purple, with plenty of crème de cassis, roasted coffee, licorice and spice, full-bodied, opulent and sexy, it is a hedonist’s dream wine. Pure and long, it has a great finish and terrific palate presence. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. Yields were exceptionally small in 2012 – 25 hectoliters per hectare."

JAMES SUCKLING: JAMES SUCKLING:"A wine with fresh, clean botrytis influence and lemon curd, sliced apricot, dried apricot and apricot confiture. This has striking purity with such intense flavors of peach and apricot custard, apricot pastry and a very elegant and supple, fleshy-fruit texture with acidity that holds such freshness on the finish. Elegance and freshness meets power and purity. Concentrated in every respect – flavors, sugar and acidity. Drink now or age for a considerable time, as you prefer."

Bravo! 17.5/20"

Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere - Les Hauts de Canon la Gaffeliere 2015
Bordeaux – Saint Emilion
FALSTAFF: "Dunkle Waldbeerearomatik in der Nase, würzige Anklänge und ein Hauch Zimt. Am Gaumen dicht, saftig und ausgewogen. Feines Tannin. Langer Abgang."
JAMES SUCKLING: "In spite of the generous ripe fruit, this also has the cool elegance and slightly austere finish of St.-Julien. Considerable intensity without any sense of heaviness make this an impressive example of modern winemaking. Second wine of Château Léoville Poyferré."
JEB DUNNUCK: "A straight-up thrill ride of a Saint-Emilion, the 2016 Château Badette comes from a complex mix of clay and sandstone soils and checks in as a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot that was raised in 85% new French oak. A big blast of crème de cassis, crushed flowers, white truffle, and spice all flows to a powerful, full-bodied Saint-Emilion that has beautiful ripeness and depth as well as balance. It has the purity and texture to shine today, yet I suspect itwill have two decades of life. Bravo!"

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is an impressive second wine. It shows a lot of vibrant red berries, blackberries and darker plum fruits. The palate is impressive for the vibrant and lively acidity cast amid sturdy but supple tannins. Second wine from Pichon-Lalande. Try from 2021."
